Artículo académico
In order to perform a study of the parasites of small mammals present in a Biological Reserve, 40 animals were captured, including the rodents Melanomys caliginosus (27), Heteromys desmarestiamus (3), Peromyscus mexicanus (3), Tylomys watsoni (2) and the marsupial Philander opossum (5). In the feaces of these animals we found eggs and larvi of the genera Ancylostoma and Trichuris as wells as some similar to the strongilinds; one of these was classified as Vexillata sp. We also found the cestodes Hymenolepis nana and H. diminuta and the protozoan Entamoeba muris, Tritrichomonas muris, Endolimax sp., Girardia sp, Hexamita sp.; the Apicomplexa organismos, Cryptosporidium, Cyclospora and the new species (already published) E. rebambensis and E. melanomystis were presents in some of the rodents and Sarcocystis sp was found in Ph. opposum. On the blood examination, Babesia sp and Bartonella sp were found un M. Caliginosus and Hepatozoon sp in Ph opposum. The importance of these findings in wild animals maintained in a protected area is discussed, in relation to human health, sustainable conservation of the faune, scientific development and tourism.
